About Us at
EMOYEni

Emoyeni originates from the Zulu language meaning "Up in the Air" and was designed and built in 1905 for the Honourable Henry Hull, who was to hold lavish parties for the rich and eminent. Hidden from the bustle of the city below, this is an apt name for a majestic place so high in the sky, where one can see the northern suburbs of Johannesburg below.

Design &
Architecture

Designed and built by Leck & Emley, the house is said to exhibit Edwardian-era elegance. Leck & Emley were the famous architects who designed the Rand Club, the Stock Exchange and Corner House - the tallest building in Johannesburg at that time. As compared to the other famous houses in the area, the design of Emoyeni was a departure from "fashionable" Herbert Baker architectural style of the time.

Decor and
Interior rooms

The overwhelming richness of the interiors is crowned by a most remarkable stairway in the mystical central spine of the building. To date the house still has Venetian glass chandeliers hanging from the ceilings with original fireplaces in every room. At Emoyeni we cater for all tastes, whether you prefer an antique or modern setting, we can transform any of our rooms into your ideal venue, be it a conference, lounge or dining setting.
